Amy McDowell and Kirk Florez’s Organic Industrial DFW Wedding at Hickory Street Annex
THE PROPOSAL: It was an ordinary evening. Amy and Kirk dined with a few friends, which was a common date for the couple, so Amy was very unsuspecting. While at dinner, one of Amy and Kirk’s friends suggested going to the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge that led Amy to think that the dinner party was going to get drinks. Once there, she and Kirk took a goofy picture, and then Amy reached down to grab her purse. As she turned around, Kirk was getting on one knee. It was surreal and a moment Amy will never forget. Kirk had planned for their friends to wait for them back at Black Swan Saloon in Deep Ellum to celebrate. The location was special to the couple because of the countless times they had discussed how beautiful the skyline looked from the bridge driving back and forth from Oak Cliff.
THE SETTING: As soon as Amy and Kirk visited Hickory Street Annex, the couple fell in love with the space. Amy was drawn to the blank slate; she knew that if they decided on this venue, the decorating opportunities would be infinite.
DELICIOUS DISHES: Gil’s Elegant Catering crushed the food game! Amy and Kirk decided on passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour as well as stations featuring different foods for dinner. One of the couple’s favorite aspects was the elote station that allowed guests to add various extras to their street corn. Amy and Kirk still have friends and family that talk about the elote station to this day. To conclude the evening, guests were given a late-night pass of breakfast tacos and orange juice, which was a nice touch after dancing the night away!
VENDOR LOVE: Amy had a tremendous amount of help during her special day. She found three vendors to be the most essential. First, Amanda Connolly with After Yes was by far the most helpful throughout the entire process. Because of her professionalism, promptness and creative eye, Amy and Kirk were able to curate a dream team of vendors. Secondly, Chrys and Ben with Ben Q. Photography captured the couple beautifully. From engagement sessions to bridal sessions to the intimate moments on Amy and Kirk’s wedding day, the two could not have been more pleased with their photography. Lastly, Amy was very thankful for Alberto with Gil’s. He was both attentive and proactive, making sure that she and Kirk were fed and taken care of on their day.
