Bridal Beauty Tips from Randee Strand Artistry

Every bride wants to look her best on the big day, so we sat down with Texas makeup artist Randee Strand Artistry for all the insider tips!

What beauty trends are you noticing for the summer?
A sure bet for summer is always a sun-kissed bronze look. Even fair-skinned beauties look great with just a touch of color. We sell a very popular matte mineral bronzer that doesn’t turn you orange, and it looks great on every skin tone. “Your Boyfriend’s Favorite Color” is a sweet, juicy gloss that has a fresh fruit look to it. It goes great with bronzer and smells like vanilla. This, along with our waterproof cream shadow/eye primer in “Teddy Bear” or “Twinkie” give clients a quick, easy look in less than five minutes. With soft bronze skin and glossy lips, you can’t go wrong!

What advice do you have for a bride trying to find the right look for her day?
Look at magazines and online for inspiration. Take a moment to look at other bridal portraits or wedding photos and choose the things that draw your eye to them. I have lots of clients bring in various Pinterest photos. This helps them convey the type of looks that they like. You want timeless photos, but stay true to yourself too. I like to take people just slightly out of their comfort zone. I have them tell me about their style on a daily basis, as well as going out. Then I like to use my expertise to show them ideas that will help them look like a better version of themselves. Together, we combine my techniques, along with how they feel most comfortable in person, and in their photos.

How can a bride help her makeup stay put for the entire event, and withstand the tears?
The million dollar question…

Even if someone does a nice job with the makeup, staying power is the key. I use special products that don’t make the look feel spackled or heavy. These pro products are going to keep the makeup on through the Texas heat, as well as your tears of joy!

What beauty product should every bride have?
Waterproof mascara. Whether you like soft makeup, or you are one of my Dallas “Divas”, waterproof is a must! I have a very mixed bag of clientele. Teachers and nurses are typically more conservative, so a soft application keeps the smudges away. Then I have my girls that love makeup and are very particular about how its done. Either way, I just adjust the amount of mascara I use on you, and viola, your eyes are striking, sexy, and waterproof.

Any other helpful beauty tips for brides-to-be?
The wedding day can be chaotic enough, don’t purchase a bunch of makeup and then try to do it yourself on your big day. Different products contain certain ingredients that reflect light and do not photograph well. Also, if you have never tried the makeup before, you could have an adverse reaction. You need a professional artist who listens to you. If you typically wear lip balm, then you don’t want someone applying a bright red lip on you for your wedding! It may sound silly, but you need to make sure you like the person you are working with, because you will be spending a lot of time with them.  My team and I listen to each individual, and are experts in bridal makeup, so there are no surprises, and it will last all night.

Drink plenty of water! Hydration helps provide us with a great canvas. Great skin + great makeup = perfection.

Last, but not least, B-R-E-A-T-H-E!  Take a moment to yourself, get in good head space so you can relax and enjoy the day.
