SWEET BEGINNINGS: Throughout high school, Andrew was best friends with Clara’s cousin and close friend. By default, Clara and Andrew ended up in the same places all of the time in high school. While they were friends then, they didn’t actually start dating until their freshman year of college at Texas A&M University. After their first year of dating, Andrew transferred to the United States Naval Academy where they spent the next six years being a long-distance couple.
PERFECT PROPOSAL: Andrew knew Clara had been itching for him to propose for some time, but since he was off in training, the timing had to be right. Andrew began planning a proposal for the next holiday he would be home, Thanksgiving. The couple was attending an A&M football game during which they smuggled in a box of Clara’s favorite fudge to snack on. While she went to the concession stand, Andrew snuck the ring into the box. During half time, Clara opened the box to discover the gorgeous ring. She was so in shock that she didn’t even comprehend what sweet things he was saying to her. After she said yes, they left the game and went to Clara’s aunt’s house where their family and friends were waiting to celebrate.
HUES SHE USED: With Andrew being in his uniform, Clara didn’t want to have to worry about colors clashing, so she chose the classic feel of black and white. They also used hints of marsala and blush pink to give the day a fall feel, along with adding light, fresh whimsy.
PRETTY PAPER: Clara created the invitations herself. The envelopes featured artistic calligraphy and were covered in gorgeous vintage stamps. The suite featured a beautiful watercolor pattern, calligraphy and hand-drawn details. It was a very classic arrangement with a nice modern spin. She also added a card insert where she and Andrew listed all of their favorite spots in town for out-of-town guests to visit while in Dallas for the wedding.
