This vibrant and colorful outdoor corona wedding is so lively and bright! Valerie and David did not expect COVID-19 to mess with their wedding plans, but not even a worldwide pandemic was going to stop them from having their dream wedding day. As Valerie said, “With all the uncertainty and craziness in the world, we wanted to face it together as husband and wife,” and for them, that meant moving their wedding day up a month and having a small, outdoor ceremony with their immediate families. But, you can bet that their day was just as special as they always planned it to be! The Figgs’ wedding day may not have been the most traditional, but it was so very them, and we love every aspect of it. Strikingly bold florals from TR Floral stole the show at the couple’s pre-ceremony styled shoot, as we can’t seem to take our eyes off of their gorgeous floral installations in the most vibrant spring colors. BRIK was the stunning venue for this celebration, as their courtyard couldn’t have been a better location for an intimate outdoor wedding. Scroll to see all the sweet details of their big day (including their two labs, Gus and Woody, making an appearance) and to read their wedding story! Cheers!

From the bride: “It started out as a joke.
In mid-January, when COVID-19 was a distant disease, my friends, family and colleagues would laugh and ask ‘How does this impact your wedding?’ I’d always respond ‘The world could be ending but we’re still getting married. Even if it’s just me and my fiancé at the alter, we’re doing the dang thing!’ Turns out the joke was on us!
We were 45 days out from the wedding when the CDC published their recommendations limiting gatherings. Not long after, Texas started to issue the stay at home orders. I was crushed. I am pretty sure I went through the five stages of grief. I was really lost and uncertain about what action to take. My fiancé and I had been together for 7 years, and couldn’t justify being engaged for another year just to have the perfect wedding we had planned. We didn’t want to wait! With all the uncertainty and craziness in the world, we wanted to face it together as husband and wife. Our one friend was kind enough to remind us that ‘it’s not the wedding, it’s the marriage!’
Once we made the decision to get married, a huge weight was lifted off my heart. I worked with my amazing vendors to see what we could pull together. They helped me plan the perfect day for me and my husband to enjoy. We also had a great support system of friends that were willing to help and encourage us. We received probably four dozen cookies the week we decided to cancel our original plans… it was graciously welcomed!
Our wedding day was very non-traditional, but so very us. We started out our day with coffee on the front porch and a long walk with our two labs, Gus and Woody. We headed to the Lumen Room where we met our florist and photographer. This is where we had our ‘not-so-first look.’ It was still the sweetest moment between the two of us. It made the whole experience real, and it hit us that we were actually getting married! In a pandemic!
On the drive to BRIK, we were giddy, excited and laughing the whole way there. I loved how much one-on-one time I got with my husband that day. The women at BRIK were amazing. They had set up the prettiest area in their courtyard for the ceremony and provided delicious cake and champagne. Only our immediate local family came. Each person had a phone to FaceTime family throughout the ceremony and reception. We enjoyed the beautiful weather in the courtyard and ate plenty of cake and popped the champagne.
After the ceremony and mini-reception, we ventured back to our house and continued the celebration. We had our all-time favorite meal, Torchy’s Tacos! I’m positive we ended up eating a gallon of their queso. And of course, we had plenty more cake and champagne throughout the night.
Looking back at all the highs and lows that 2020 dealt so far, this has been an indescribable high that has carried us through the year. We are so thankful to our family and friends for their love and support. We are reminded daily that we are so fortunate that we are happy, healthy and have each other as husband and wife.”
