Slow Burn Romance

We met on the first day of freshman year of high school. Where most of our classmates already knew each other from the same middle school, we were both coming from two different schools and didn’t know anyone. We quickly became good friends, often playing pranks on our business teacher, and giggling together along with our classmates.

It was a slow burn. We were in the same friend group and became best friends. Jake would constantly joke about how we were going to end up together, be married and I would laugh in his face like he was crazy. After a few failed attempts at Jake expressing his true feelings behind the playful banter, I started to realize that Jake was serious and had feelings for me. And after 3 years, I realized deep down I had developed feelings as well.

In August 2021, we took a trip to Zion National Park in Utah to hike with my sister and brother in law. After an amazing day of hiking with beautiful views, we went to dinner and sat outside on a patio that overlooked the mountains in the park. Jake asked to take a walk closer to the mountain, and dropped down on a knee and asked for forever. We spent the rest of the weekend in bliss, around jaw dropping views!
