Meredith Falke and Mark Plunkett’s Classic Texas Ballroom Wedding
PERFECT PROPOSAL: Mark was in Paris, on his way to Monaco for a wedding. During his time in Paris, the couple was broken-up and he was missing Meredith. He came across the Pont des Arts, a pedestrian bridge where couples will place locks with their names. Without Meredith’s knowledge, Mark purchased a lock, wrote “Plunkett Loves Falke” on it, locked it to the bridge and tossed one of the keys into the water. Five years later, Mark planned a 10-day trip to France for the couple. On their final night in Paris, Mark planned pre-dinner cocktails at a restaurant near the Pont des Arts, where he stopped while they were walking. Unbeknownst to him, all the locks were going to be torn down 48 hours later, and the bridge was boarded up. Mark had taken photos of the lock and exactly where it was positioned on the bridge. He showed Meredith the pictures, and while she was searching for it, he proposed. Mark proposed with his late mother’s engagement ring.
SAVORY SWEETS: The bride’s cake and table décor was covered with white orchids, glass and candles to carry forward the candlelight wedding theme. Margaret at Dallas Affaires designed the eight-layer-plus cake, adorned with sugar flowers. The cake, plus the flowers and candelabras, made for a spectacular sight. Meanwhile, the groom’s cake was fashioned in a natural wood grain design and had their initials carved in. The area around the cake was accented with candles and twigs.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: Meredith and Mark are both proud graduates of Southern Methodist University — along with 17 of their attendants — and have season football and basketball season tickets. In fact, the final SMU men’s basketball game was the day they left for their honeymoon, and they made it to the first half before departing to the airport! Peruna, the official SMU mascot, made a surprise appearance at their reception as a gift from the bride’s parents! She posed for pictures, danced with the guests and passed out personalized blue and white M&M’s.
