SWEET BEGINNINGS: Ashley and Cortland met in December of 2009 at Cortland’s fraternity’s tacky Christmas sweater party. Two of Ashley’s friends dragged her to meet this “really cute guy named Cort.” Once they reached him, she uttered the words, “I am so sorry about this,” shook his hand, walked away and didn’t talk to him for the rest of the night. The next day, Ashley had a Facebook message from him asking to grab coffee, which turned out to be just the beginning.
PERFECT PROPOSAL: It was Christmas day and Cortland was supposed to be in College Station, Texas, spending the holiday with family. Ashley was celebrating at her grandmother’s house when she got a call from Cortland. They talked for a minute and he told her to go outside. Thinking that it might have started snowing, Ashley walked to the front door and saw Cortland. He began to play out a scene from one of their favorite romantic comedies, “Love Actually,” then got down on one knee and asked Ashley to marry him.
HUES SHE USED: Ashley wanted to show her diverse taste of style throughout the wedding. Although the décor was cohesive, you could still see vintage, bohemian and rustic influences. With shades of blue, green, pink, purple and yellow, the ceremony and reception were more beautiful than the couple could have hoped.
SPECIAL TOUCHES: Ashley has a passion for horses and wanted to incorporate them into the wedding as much as she could. Wedding favors were all real horseshoes that were spray painted gold while the table number holders were gold horses that Ashley hand-made.
MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT: The couple’s most memorable moment was when the church doors opened up to the courtyard. Ashley and Cortland walked hand-in-hand to see their family and friends cheering for them as they walked to the bus. They were both smiling so big because they felt so lucky to have this much love in their lives.
